Cheapest value cardHow to activate your new tariff

Step-by-step to the value card

I have found a suitable value card tariff. How do I activate it?

1. Buy the SIM of the provider. With prepaid cards, you can change the tariff at any time, as there is no minimum term. So the first step is to buy the card of the chosen mobile operator (even if another tariff is written on it). You can get these in many stores, on the provider's online site, and often also directly at Amazon.

2. choose your tariff. For example, if you bought the "eety TOP" SIM from Amazon and you want to have the "eety PLUS" tariff, you have to change the tariff. To do this, insert the new SIM into your smartphone and enter the tariff change code in the phone field or simply call the service number. Important: You need to have enough credit on your prepaid card to activate a rate.

3. optional: activate additional packages. If the data volumes in your rate plan are too low or you simply want to surf faster, you can activate data packages for a limited period at any time. These are ordered, just like rate changes, via a code in the phone field or via the service number. All codes can be found on the provider's website.

Unlike contract rates, you do not sign a contract for prepaid cards. SIM cards can be purchased in any normal store. The cards are loaded manually (e.g. with vouchers that you get at the supermarket checkout). The biggest advantage: Full cost control, no monthly bills.

Cheap prepaid cards: FAQ

Short questions & answers about the topic

What is the rate change code?

This is a combination of digits and special characters that you enter directly into the phone's keypad.

In the example screenshot below: The code for a data plan with eety. The entry is confirmed by touching the call button.

How long is a value card rate valid?

Normally, a prepaid card rate is valid for one month (30 days). If there is enough credit on the prepaid card, the rate is automatically extended with most providers. If there is not enough money on the prepaid card, the rate is paused - until you have topped up the prepaid card again and booked another rate.

More and more providers also offer an app for cost control. By the way, the prepaid card can also be topped up via this app.

The biggest advantage: A value card tariff can be changed, paused or canceled every month. You have full control and can switch to a new tariff every 30 days.

What happens if there is no more credit on the prepaid card?

Nothing.

Since you have not signed a contract, the provider cannot force you to make additional payments. If there is no more money on the prepaid card, you can no longer use the SIM for calling, texting or surfing - until you have topped up the card again. Then everything works as usual again.

If, as a customer, I find a better rate with another provider after a few months, I can theoretically throw away the SIM and go to the new provider - the contract-free rate makes it possible.
