Free checking account in Austria: comparison of the top 5

Have you had enough of your bank's account management fees? An average checking account in Germany costs between 5 and 15 euros per month, depending on the state and the bank.

There are some good free checking account providers in Austria and we took a closer look at them. In this article, we present you the top 5 of the free current accounts in Austria before.

1. DADAT - The everything direct bank

DADAT Bank is at the top of the ranking because it has very good conditions. The direct bank is based in Austria. At Bankhaus Schelhammer & Schattera AG in Vienna at Goldschmiedgasse 3, 1010 Vienna, cash can be deposited and withdrawn directly at the cash desk. This is possible in over 60 Volksbank branches throughout Austria. There is a list of these on the DADAT corporate website - there you can look up where the deposit/withdrawal machines are located in the foyer.

2. ING-DiBa Direct Bank Austria

In second place in our ranking is ING-DiBa Bank, because it also has very good conditions. Compared to DADAT Bank, however, cash deposits are not possible. Action until further notice: ING-DiBa refunds 2x per year the third-party fees incurred for a cash deposit or transfer via a third-party bank. There is a branch at Schwedenpatz in Vienna, at Rotenturmstraße 29, 1010 Vienna. There, you can have online banking explained to you on site.

The retail banking business of ING Austria was transferred to bank99 AG as of November 30, 2021.

3. Austrian Anadi Bank

Anadi Bank is an Indian-Austrian bank and is located in Klagenfurt, Austria, in our ranking it is ranked 3rd. In April 2017, Anadi Bank started with a free Oline account. Anyone whose main residence and center of life is in Austria and who receives at least 300 euros as salary/salary or pension per month can apply for a free account at Anadi Bank. Bookings can be made over the counter at Anadi branches (e.g. cash deposit, cash withdrawal, bank transfer), but cost around 1.90 euros per transaction. There are a total of 10 locations in Carinthia, Salzburg, Styria and Vienna.

easybank AG is a direct bank with the range of services of a full-service bank ? from current accounts and savings products to credit cards, consumer and home loans, car leasing as well as securities and funds. In our ranking it lands on place 4. easy Bank is a subsidiary of the BAWAG P.S.K., in over 400 service places Austria far of the BAWAG P.S.K., cash deposits and withdrawals are possible (max. 3 withdrawals per quarter free of charge, afterwards 1,52 euro per withdrawal).

BAWAG P.S.K. is a major bank in Austria, with over 2.2 million private and corporate customers. The most favorable checking account is the ?Einfach Online? account of BAWAG P.S.K.. This bank lands in last place with its free offer, since here several criteria are necessary to apply for a free account. It also has the highest debit interest rate with 12% p.a.. Cash deposits are possible at BAWAG P.S.K.'s more than 400 service points in Austria together with the post office (deposits at ATMs to third-party accounts, costs: EUR 2.50 own and third-party institution).

The bank offers the following services:

  • free electronic transactions
  • including 1 BAWAG P.S.K. ATM transaction per month (each additional transaction EUR 0.39)
  • after a positive credit check, with a free BAWAG P.S.K. credit card if desired
  • from 0,- Euro (with a monthly average balance of 1.200,- Euro the account management fee of 4,90 Euro per month will be refunded)
