How to choose the right tariff

Flat rate tariffs for mobile Internet in Austria have not been around for long. In Germany, there is still no real "flat rate" for mobile surfing, while more and more providers are jumping on the bandwagon in the Alpine country and offering unlimited mobile Internet. The advantage is that you are virtually independent of location and LTE is faster than the lame copper cable connections in the country.

What is a flat rate tariff?

Most cell phone rates or pure surfing rates have a so-called data cap (data volume). As soon as you reach this limit, the Internet speed is throttled and normal surfing is hardly possible: YouTube videos no longer load and, apart from WhatsApp, no service works reliably.

However, if you watch a lot of videos or want to surf on your PC at home with the tariff, you would need a huge data volume. Longer HD movies, for example, consume several gigabytes!

Flat-rate tariffs were created to avoid problems here. These have no data cap - you can surf as long and as much as you want. Unlimited.

Our recommendation

Who his Surf tariff for cell phones only (e.g. as a 2nd SIM) or for the tablet, can also use a normal tariff with larger data volume use. In most cases, no flat rate is necessary here.

However, who wants to surf via LTE at home (with the right SIM router), we recommend a rate plan with unlimited data volume. After all, an average household downloads a lot of data per month: Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Prime, etc.

Which providers offer flat rate tariffs for mobile surfing?

A few years ago, there was only one provider with a mobile flat rate: Three. For a long time, you could only enjoy flat-rate Internet with this provider. In the meantime also Magenta and A1 decided to offer unlimited mobile Internet.

With the HUI Flat rates, Drei is one of the front runners. Above all, the provider's prices are almost unbeatable. In addition, there is no price trap with this provider, which means that you still pay the same basic fee even after several months. (Other providers lure you with extremely low-priced special offers, but then you usually pay many times more a few months later).

Magenta

At flexible internet for home is already available in the lowest LTE rate. The Internet Flex Box is free of charge, and you can choose between three offers: Flex 50, Flex 100 or Flex 250. Although all rates are advertised very favorably, this is only a special offer. A few months later, you have to pay the actual basic fee (many times more).

Austria's oldest mobile communications provider offers with the Net Cube rates, there are some interesting offers with unlimited data volume. Here, too, you have to watch out for the trap with the special offer.
